5 Help Exchange Volunteer Projects for Gardeners

If you think the carrot has mystery, (though not so much that flowers are essentially tarts; prostitutes for the bees), then we have five help exchanges – ranging from stately homes to alternative lifestyles – for green fingered volunteers.

Stay in a nature reserve in Cirali, Turkey, and help with my homestay and garden
The garden needs to be watered every day and knowledge of organic greenhousing would be advantageous to volunteers at this Turkish homestay, in a nature reserve that gave rise to the chimera myth. Other tasks include sometimes preparing a breakfast for guests, and feeding the ducks and chickens. Nearby are ancient city ruins and the scenic Olympos Beach.

Help at a Grade 1 listed house in Somerset, UK
A good general knowledge, including water features, vegetables, tree pruning etc, is needed from gardeners here, along with a volunteer commitment in excess of three months over the summer. Extra paid work on top of the 25 volunteer hours is sometimes offered.

Stay on a community and help with gardening near Byron Bay, Australia
This host shares two acres on a small alternative lifestyle community near nature reserves, forests and waterfalls. The host has his own recording studio so any music skill could be a bonus.

Help us prepare the garden for the visitors in Brittany
Three hours of work a day, Monday to Friday, is the deal here. Most of the work is weeding and help is needed from March to June, and sometimes in Autumn.

Silver Coast, one person or couple invited for gardening and general property maintenance in Portugal
This retiree from a high pressure job in the UK lives simply with two traditionally built Portuguese houses and could do with some help with a large garden and veg patch.
