#TravelTuesday: Turkish Expat & Travel Bloggers

Expats in Turkey are particularly active bloggers. Some of these blogs I know well, others were discovered while researching this post. They range from inane yet entertaining fluff detailing personal insights into the minutiae of living in a particular town to thoughtful, in-depth political discourse or all-encompassing guides to the Turkish nation.

If you are a travel blogger based in Turkey, expat or otherwise, or know a good Turkish travel resource, please tell us more in the comments below.

#TravelTuesday: Wandering Earl

Tagline: The Life of a Permanent Nomad

A mix of destination posts, how to articles, travel philosophy and often simple, yet very practical advice make up Wandering Earl. The goodness of human nature and the similarity in the hopes and dreams of people from otherwise different cultures are recurring themes. Answering all of the many comments and emails he receives, Wandering Earl betrays none of the jadedness, ego or cliqueness that can sometimes affect blogs by authors with a similar time (or less) spent on the road.

#TravelTuesday: Tend To Travel

Tagline: None

On entering Tend To Travel visitors are presented with a striking photo slider that both sets the tone for what to expect throughout the rest of the site and makes great use of the editor’s photographic skills. The architectural background of the editor focuses Tend To Travel on the ascetics of buildings around the world – particularly though the clever use of sketches – and gives the site a strong unique selling point that can be lacking in some other travel sites. At the same time the human side of travel is not neglected.

#TravelTuesday: Trains on the Brain

Tagline: Save yourself the pain and travel by train

Forget the strain of flashing your naked body to airport staff before cramming it into a tiny seat in a gravity defying, airtight tin box and travel in a civilised manner by rail. Unlike blogs covering travel with broader strokes, Trains on the Brain devotes its attention to consumer issues, history and infrastructure as well as personal experiences and, as one would expect, dwells on the journey over the destination.

A Week in Amsterdam – #TravelTuesday: Velvet Escape

Tagline: Go Explore, experience, and be inspired

Velvet Escape focuses on the luxury side of independent travel and considers itself in the forefront of blogs promoting destinations and experiences at this end of the travel market. However, unlike similarly positioned publications, the open and friendly style doesn’t exclude less well-heeled travellers. The experiences described in Velvet Escape may be rich but the reader needn’t be to gain inspiration and ideas for their own travels.
