If you are dreaming of visiting Europe the chances are it is western half that invades your travel thoughts. London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Barcelona or Amsterdam are all well known destinations but, aside from Prague, eastern Europe is often skipped over by visitors to the continent.

Albania isn’t the first place people think about when considering where to volunteer. Well off Europe’s beaten track this mountainous country sees few visitors compared to its Greek and Italian neighbours but enjoys a similar climate, an openly curious people and some fascinating cities well worth exploring.
I must confess to a certain contempt for photographers trying to illuminate a distant object with the pitiful built in flash of a point and shoot camera. I inwardly scream at people trying to add their own light to something quite distant like, say, the moon.

Hello. As usual JAB always seems to fall on the day or day before we are moving but today Deirdre is unwell – our unwritten rule when one of us is sick is not to travel unless we absolutely have to. Otherwise we would be heading to Skopje today.
Hello, we finally left beautiful Corfu Town and headed north to explore other parts of the island and then it was back to the roughty, toughty backpacker life, travelling to Albania.
